SEASONS

‘Know, recognise, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God. Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commands to a thousand generations,’ Deuteronomy 7: 9 [The Amplified Bible].

Although this might seem the beginning of another season, the season of your life might not necessarily correspond with this. How would you classify your present season of life? For instance are you in spring when the flowers blossom, crops grow and it does rain quite a lot? Or are you in winter when crops and water become scarce, when the wind constantly howls and becomes harsh and everywhere looks gloomy and dull?

In the United Kingdom for instance, there has to be winter before spring and before summer there has to be spring. We cannot expect to see autumn suddenly, there has to be the hot summer period first. This same principle could be applied to our daily lives. We just have to prepare ourselves for the seasons of life God permits us to be experiencing whenever we are experiencing it.
What season of life are you in at present?

Are you in a raining season? Enjoy it. Do not complain. As a Christian, it is a time to plant, to sow seeds, to scatter all knowledge you’ve received from the Master. Even though it is refreshing, it could be daunting because you are not so certain if you are doing the right thing because results do not appear all of a sudden. What does that tell us? It is still a waiting process.

Do gather as much rain as you could, aware it would not always be a raining season. Refreshed, excited and energetic might be appropriate words to describe how you feel, that’s great! Use the energy to talk about the great things the Lord has done for you and yours. Sow seeds of faith wherever you find yourself, through prayers, establish righteousness and conceive new ideas, dreams and more passion for God and His work. It is a sowing period and it is essential that you and I do sow good seeds. The seeds have to be sown on fertile soil too, if we are going to expect any kind of harvest.

On the contrary, you might think you have nothing to sow, that the terms lethargic, stale or weary best describe you due to the wintry season you believe you are experiencing. The times are harsh, causing confusion and heartbreaks as you wonder why you do have to go through this season. During winter there is a tendency to stay indoors more, therefore, stay away from the crowd like Moses and stay in with Christ.

Cry to Him, sing to Him, tell Him that it hurts just as He knows it does [He just wants to hear it from you]. Get your Bible out and your journal and let Him teach you more about Himself. He is the shoulder to lean on, He ‘keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments’. You cannot handle what is happening by yourself, you need to rely on and depend on the Lord.

Staying in with God is a great time to build your confidence and self-esteem again. Relax in the Lord’s presence as you do not have the capacity to fix what is happening or what has happened, but you can put it in His hand because He says:
‘Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.’
I Peter 5:7  [The NLT Version]

Do not exacerbate the situation by condemning yourself just be calm, spend every dark night listening for His still small voice –He does speak even when the storm is raging. Your season of winter will clear. But take all what you have received with you into spring and begin to plant whether it makes sense to you or not.

To be continued
