Where Does My Help Come From-Is My Lord Asleep?

Among the words of David [the shepherd boy] who fulfilled God’s purpose for his life

by becoming the King of Israel in Psalms 121 are:

The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.

I do understand that you feel God is oblivious; if He is not, you enquire,

“why am I going through all this stress?” “He certainly must have forgotten all about

me or gone to sleep. Or maybe, He might be on holiday!”

“Maybe He is incapable of helping me any further.”

“Although I can remember how He saved me when I was about to drown; how He helped

me a few years back when I was wallowing in depression.

Today, it seems if He is still alive He must be fast asleep and who can wake God up?”

Does this sound familiar? Yes you are still a Christian, you believe Christ died for your sins;

He arose on the third day and His throne is in heaven but that is about it. You find it

extremely hard to believe He can deliver you from your predicaments as there are needs

in your life that are pressing to an extent that you don’t know what to do about them.

You encourage yourself to have faith like Abraham but it seems to slip through your fingers

every time you make an attempt to hold on to it. In fact, instead of things getting better

they propound; you have now got to the point where you are about to work things out your

own way. “It might not be right,” you say, “but I will know I have made an attempt to help

myself as I am tired of waiting.” Friend, I urge you to stop. Take a deep breath and relax.

I appreciate that it is hard on you; it does seem as if the whole world is resting on your

head but wait a minute; let us go through the scriptures together and see what God has to

say to you today.

In Psalm 121 we have a picture of someone in pain; someone in need just like you. Someone

low in heart; gearing towards depression. David, just like you had many battles. There were

occasions where people ganged up against him and he was mesmerised but instead of taking

any abrupt decision he pulled himself together one morning by the power of the Holy Spirit

deciding to face his fear; calling it as it is.

David’s plight no doubt is similar to yours; in fact they are similar to anyone who would say,

“I realise all my friends have deserted me,” “I am aware that I have just been made redundant,”

“my home has just been re-possessed,” “I am still battling with drugs and have made no

progress.” “I still haven’t quit my bad habits,” “I am still struggling with my overweight,”

“It is a fact that my husband has just left me with the children.”  “NEVERTHELESS, I will stay

focused.” “I do not care what my situation looks like; no matter how big it gets or how worse it

becomes, I will lift my eyes to the hills…”

David realised he needed to take his eyes off his predicaments and focus on God the giver of life.

The beauty of the meadows and the hills gave him hope and he was able to celebrate.

Maybe today you are at the end of your tether; you really want someone to celebrate you in spite

of where you are at in life, here you are being offered hope; support and encouragement. Every

week you are guaranteed a free word of encouragement on this along with a variety of other

Inspirational material to encourage you and help you travel successfully on this Great Christian

journey. David looked up and saw something different. He realised the one who created the heaven,

created the earth, made him in his own image and cares about him.
